Where does the money go?

All payments go through Stripe, my secure payment service provider. This means there are no non-essential middlemen involved. Apart from Stripe's standard transaction fees, the rest of the money (almost 100%) goes directly to me.

I separate the income into three categories:

Operating costs. These are subscriptions that my site and all its parts require to operate year-round — things like domain provider, email service, website builder, newsletter hosting, software suits, etc.

Coffee fund. I use a humble portion of the money for times when I need a break from the monotony of writing from home. It covers a cup of Americano and the (occasional) éclair.

Savings. The rest goes into three special vaults, one for future creative endeavours, another for emergencies, and one kept as a locked retirement account.

As someone who grew up in a frugal household, I've developed a strict relationship with money in the sense that I don't like to spend it unless it serves a clear and meaningful purpose. For this reason, I feel confident that all the funds that arrive via the tip button are being put to well-defined uses. (Terms apply.)
